My name is Lauren Turner, I’m 32 years old and current business owner of a new Medical Clinic based in Lordship Lane. I am a nurse by background and also live in the East Dulwich area.

How long have you lived in the area?

I have lived in the area for the last seven years since moving all the way over from Ireland. I don’t think I will be able to move back to Ireland at any point, especially after living in London which is such a vibrant city and has so much to offer.

What brought you here?

I initially came here to complete my nurse training at University and then following this, work in a very busy London Hospital Emergency Department. After meeting my partner around this area, I definitely plan to stay for the long term and settle down here.

What do you most value about the area/street you live in?

I really love the community spirit in the area I live in. During the pandemic, my street has pulled together in order to support everyone, both elderly and young. This has enabled us to get to know each other more and also help out those in need. Being able to rely on neighbors during this time is fantastic.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t do without?

I know this is a very typical answer, however…….coffee! Working six days a week to keep my business going definitely needs a strong coffee in the morning before I wake up and most certainly something I couldn’t do without. I try to support independent businesses as much as possible and so you can find me in Jade’s Boulangerie or Kanella & Co. grabbing my morning coffee.

The most famous person you’ve seen or met?

Pleased to say we have had a few famous people come to our lovely medical clinic, however I am sworn to secrecy to the grave on that one!

Describe your perfect weekend

Getting towards that end of the spectrum where I would consider a relaxed weekend including a takeaway (I adore the Chinese from 148) or a lovely meal out on a Saturday evening with a few drinks in The Bishop as the perfect weekend……. Especially during winter when it’s cold.

Where are you likely to be found on Saturday?

Saturday is one of our busiest days in the medical clinic and so for the most part of the day I am working! However, I absolutely love it and so cannot complain.

Cafe, pub or bar?

That’s definitely a tough one. I think café would have to be my answer! I love meeting up with friends and having breakfast or lunch in East Dulwich and treating myself when I have a free minute. Although, in this current climate I have forgotten what it’s like to be in a bar and almost certainly looking forward to this when things normalise again.

Book I am currently reading?

I love a good autobiography and I am very interested in other people’s lives and how they came to be where they are today. I have just started ‘Becoming’ by Michelle Obama.

My perfect holiday..

I’m definitely a city girl and love exploring, rather than a relaxing sun holiday. My perfect getaway would have to be somewhere like New York, where it is mainly hustle and bustle.
