Our September mags are out!

Our September magazines are being distributed today.  Each magazine (SE21, SE22 & SE23) is available to read as a flipzine on the right of this page.  Please do feel free to share them with your friends and family. Dulwich Net Zero

In 30 years time all houses and flats in Dulwich will, by law, have to be Net Zero writes Andrew Cunningham. This means that all energy sources into our homes will need to be zero carbon and zero fossil fuel. 100% green electricity and 100% green hydrogen gas will be the only energy we will be legally allowed to buy to heat and power our homes. This is not a vague aspiration, it is set in law. Gas boilers are already to be outlawed in new build properties by 2025.  Green wood and coal can no longer be burned in open fires. The writing is on the wall. A zero carbon world is coming, whether we like it or not. This is a massive undertaking and will require huge changes in our homes and high streets as well as in the wider national infrastructure (more wind  and solar farms , nuclear power etc). Look Before You Leap

Last year I was contacted by a client who, with the best of intentions, passion and energy and, believing he had everything sorted, threw himself into his property’s refurbishment. His builder was given full responsibility for the day to day project management. After just 2 weeks into the project, the cry for help came in. Engaging an interior designer at this late stage is not uncommon but, is fraught with problems. The client may not know the interior designer’s work and approach, the existing design may lack professional aesthetic and practical input, and the space for conflict and/or compromise is wide. The purpose of any refurbishment is to fulfil a human need. Having early professional input is critical in the design and delivery of an outcome that successfully satisfies that need. The project contained perfectly suitable technical information for any builder to follow. What was lacking is what turns a house into a fully functional and comfortable home.
