Love2Dance is expanding to bring free, fun, fantastic street dance classes to Honor Oak! Taster sessions will run at Honor Oak Community Centre on Wednesday 27 July and Tuesday 16 August before regular weekly sessions begin on Monday 12 September. (Full listings, times and details below).
Love2Dance is a free street dance programme for 8 to 18 year olds. It gives young people the chance to learn street dance, attend inspiring shows and events and take part in live performances throughout the year.
The progamme was launched by Lewisham Homes residents and is supported as part of the Albany and Lewisham Homes’ innovative and unique partnership. They work together to create long-lasting and growing opportunities for Lewisham families.
Thanks to the partnership, the number of young people taking part in Love2Dance has increased more than fourfold in the last 12 months. Over the year 246 young people attended 63 sessions in three regular classes over two sites, totalling 1,472 participations.
The Honor Oak classes will further grow the programme and allow more young people to have fun, get fit and grow in confidence. As one young dancer’s parent put it, ‘this has been the best thing for him, he’s developed new skills, self-confidence and a creative interest.’
Lewisham Homes and the Albany are working together to expand the reach of the Albany’s activities across the borough, developing programmes that place creativity at the heart of community engagement for Lewisham Homes residents.
Sessions in Sydenham and Deptford will also continue. Dates and times. To find out more, email Love2Dance@thealbany.org.uk or call 07984 355 826 and speak to Zaylie or Carmel.
