St Christopher’s Hospice is delighted to be celebrating 25 years of its biggest fundraising event with the St Christopher’s Fun Walk on Sunday 17th May at Keston Common, Kent.

The biennial Fun Walk is suitable for keen walkers as well as those who enjoy a gentle Sunday stroll, with a choice of three, five, eight or eleven mile cross-country walks through the beautiful Kent countryside in springtime. Early birds can choose to set-off from Keston Common from 8.30am, with the last recommended set-off time advised at 12pm for the eight and eleven mile walk, and 1pm for the three and five-mile walk.

Participation in the event is free when registering in advance, but walkers are encouraged to secure sponsorship for their efforts and support the work of St Christopher’s in the local community. Over the last 25 years the Fun Walk has raised £1.87 million, and this year St Christopher’s is aiming to reach the £2 million mark. Register free in advance to receive a fundraising pack at www.stchristophers.org.uk/funwalk or call 020 8768 4684 for an application form. Walkers who do not register in advance will be asked for a sign-up fee to register on the day.

There will be lots of fun and community spirit along the route, with entertainment, a Waitrose sponsored BBQ, refreshments and awards for the best fancy dress and the most money raised.

The first St Christopher’s Fun Walk was orchestrated by the Langley Park Rotarians and took place in 1990 with 423 walkers. Twenty five years later, hospice staff are hoping that thousands more people will pull on their walking shoes on 17 May and raise money to help St Christopher’s continue to provide and promote care of the highest quality for dying people.

Please note that walkers under 18 years of age need parental consent to take part, and anyone under 16 years old must be accompanied by an adult or guardian.

For more information on sponsorship, the walk itself or other ways to get involved please contact Rebecca Kemp at r.kemp@stchristophers.org.uk or telephone 0208 768 4570.
