Havelock Walk is home to a diverse community of creative people, who live and work on this cobbled mews at the heart of Forest Hill.
The live/work community is an exciting and dynamic atmosphere for artists to work in. The creative energy of the community as a whole extends to each individual, offering recognition, encouragement and support whenever needed.
In May the painters, printers, sculptors, photographers, ceramicists, designers and other arty types of Havelock Walk open their studios to the public, as part of Dulwich Festival. Open studios offers a unique insight into the working life of the artists, and affords visitors the personal opportunity to meet each artist together with their work.
Having been bombed in the war Havelock Walk remained virtually derelict until near the end of the last century. The availability of warehouse space caught the eye of sculptor Jeff Lowe, who has since encouraged other artists to move to the street, creating a hub of artistic activity. Lewisham council has now designated Havelock Walk as an official conservation area, in recognition of the energy that the community brings to the local area.
The artists invite you to come and join the excitement, and to show your support for creativity in the local community. Visit Havelock Walk Open Studios, part of Dulwich Festival, 9-10 and 16-17 May 2015 from 11-6pm.
