January 2017 marks the third anniversary of the East Dulwich Academy of Music and Performing Arts at Goose Green Primary School. The academy was masterminded by local music teacher, Rob Parton who heads up the Music Department at Goose Green. When he’s not teaching during the week or running the Academy at the weekend, Rob performs regularly with bands and orchestras across London and the UK.
“Rob’s energy and enthusiasm for sharing music with young people is contagious, it’s what makes the Academy such a special place.”
Based at Goose Green in the heart of East Dulwich, the Academy offers music, drama and dance classes for local children aged 4-16. Children of all abilities are welcomed, giving them the chance to learn instruments and perform in a range of ensembles, with regular performances to parents giving them the opportunity to showcase their new skills.
The Academy was a labour of love for Rob, who has just been entered for Classic FM’s Music Teacher of the Year by his school. He has great plans for the Academy’s future and 2017 will see the addition of more Wednesday night dance classes and an expansion of the Saturday morning drama groups and ensembles.
The academy would like to invite local young musicians to join us to play in the following: wind band, brass ensemble string ensemble, percussion group and ukulele & guitar ensemble. They have a special offer in the New Year of a free trial week which also extends to their drama and ballet groups.
