We are delighted to share that 161@home is back on Friday 24th April with a special guest chef: Jane Alty, the head chef and co-owner of The Begging Bowl – the acclaimed Thai street food restaurant in Bellenden Road, Peckham.

Originally from New Zealand, Jane has lived in London for 16 years, working alongside the city’s best chefs in top-name restaurants such as Bibendum, Galvin at Windows, Racine and the Michelin-starred Nahm.

While travelling through Asia, Jane became infatuated with Thailand and its exciting and exquisite food. She fell so in love with the local dishes that she immediately changed her career path to focus exclusively on this deeply complex and demanding cuisine. This is what led to her spending three-and-a half years at Nahm working under the internationally-acclaimed chef David Thompson and subsequently working with him in Bangkok for three months.

Jane’s ideas are now poured into her sophisticated yet accessible Thai dishes at The Begging Bowl where she works with English seasonal produce, obsessively making everything from scratch, while taking great care not to interfere with traditional techniques.
