My name is Mary Watson Nunziato. I’m an artist, and a waitress and I manage the Bread of Life Fair Trade Centre in East Dulwich. My work is not far from home and my American husband works in Westminster.
How long have you lived in the area?
I was born and raised here in East Dulwich. Although I have been away travelling in my middle twenties. I took a year to travel around New Zealand, Australia, and the Cook Islands. Then I took off for three months to travel around the USA, Canada & the West Indies.
What do you most value about the area/street you live in?
I love living and working in East Dulwich. It is such a diverse and vibrant place. So much to see and do. Our street off Lordship Lane is a very friendly Neighbourhood. Sometimes we have had street parties in the Summer.
What is the one thing you couldn’t do without?
My family and friends.
What is your favourite place to eat?
I love going to our local Chinese restaurant, 148 on Lordship Lane. They serve great food, and they make you feel welcome.
The best meal I’ve ever had..
I love the cheese and onion quiche with either salad & bread or the delicious chips they serve at The Bread of Life Café. The shortbread or a banana split is also great to finish the meal.
Coffee or tea? Where?
I like the coffee at the Italian Café Amalfi (Signoria) in Lordship Lane.
What is your favourite shop?
It has to be the Bread of Life Fair Trade Centre at Christ Church in Barry Road, for my fair trade/eco food & gifts. It is a treasure trove of goodies helping people in developing countries.
What was the last thing you bought there?
Fair Trade rice cakes. They are the best I have tasted. You are helping producers, are organic & wildlife friendly. Chris Packham has a quote on the packet in support.
The book I’m reading at the moment..
The Stranger in My Home by Adele Parks. I bought it in a charity shop. I do like to go to charity shops to see what you can buy. I like to see what books they have.
Where are you likely to be found on Saturday?
Once/twice a month running the Fair Trade Centre. Other times we go out as a family locally or uptown. We like going to the North Cross Road Market and seeing new things uptown, like exhibitions.
When I want to relax…
When I get time, I love to paint, flowers, animals, pet portraits using acrylics.
My perfect holiday…
Going back to Chicago where my husband is originally from. Lots of places to visit, see family & friends. My husband and I like to see new places in the area & food places.
