The diverse programme of free film screenings starts on 10th May with the return of the festival’s ever popular Short Film Night, upstairs at The Prince Regent pub.

Thomas Vinterberg’s acclaimed comedy drama, Another Round follows on 12th May at Canopy Beer Co, the local Herne Hill craft brewery just down the road.

This year’s big outdoor screening is held at Herne Hill Velodrome on Sunday 15th May with Tron; the 1982 sci-fi epic by Steven Lisberger.

On 17th May the festival moves to a smaller local venue, Herne Hill Baptist Church, for The Father starring Anthony Hopkins and Olivia Colman; followed by a live Q&A with co-producer David Parfitt.

Wrapping up the festival, the 2021 documentary I Am Belmaya will be screened at The Effra Space on 20th May. An inspirational tale of rebellion, courage and hope in patriarchal Nepal, the screening includes a live Q&A with the film’s director Sue Carpenter following the screening.

The Herne Hill Free Film Festival was established to bring film to all corners of the local community, to make the experience of cinema accessible to everyone and to introduce people to films they might not otherwise cross paths with. This year the festival will be supporting the local Norwood and Brixton Foodbank with fundraising and food donations collected at the screenings.

The Herne Hill Free Film Festival is a volunteer-led community event made possible by the generous support of Pedder Property. The festival’s volunteers are also grateful to all the venues for hosting screenings and to audiences for their kind donations.
