One of the participants on last months street art walk was Susan, who invited me to look at her wall on Bawdale Road, corner of Fellbrigg Road , just ripe for a mural. Co-incidentally at this time, I had been in correspondence with Berlin based female street artist, Mad C, to repaint her Belair Park tennis court wall which constantly gets vandalised as soon as it gets repaired.
So a lightbulb moment happened, as I realised Susan’s wall was pretty much the same dimensions as the Belair wall, and before you knew it, everything fell into place. The neighbours all came out to see Mad C, with help from Remi Rough, on August 29th and were delighted to see this interpretation of Van Huysum’s Flowers in a Vase emerge beautifully with inspired sweeps of the can in vibrant abstract lines with beautiful details of Dutch tulips, ladybird and butterfly.
You may know Mad C ‘s 2015 mural by the Plough pub car park, based on Venetia Digby on her Deathbed, part of Ingrid Beazley’s Street Art/Fine Art project. www.dulwichoutdoorgallery.co.uk. Mad C is also one of many international artists creating amazing artworks throughout September in the London Mural Festival.
I shall be leading a small group walk including the recent pieces on October 4th.
