South London Dance School is based in Herne Hill and on Sunday 9th January, their cast of 180 talented young dancers will perform a long-awaited double-bill dance performance at Langley Park School for Boys in Beckenham.

The dancers have been exceptionally patient throughout the pandemic and are now very much looking forward to finally having the chance to perform on stage live, in front of an audience. Live performance is something we have all previously taken for granted and now appreciate as a fantastic opportunity and life-experience for all those involved.

Their show will be in two parts:

Act I – ‘The Scarecrows’ Wedding’

South London Dance School is honoured to have been given the rights to create and perform a new ballet for children to perform and watch based on the much-loved book by Julia Donaldson.  With a new score composed by Stuart Rush, inventive choreography and wonderful costumes by local dressmaker Maggie Bulman which bring to life Axel Scheffler’s book illustrations, this promises to be a much-needed bright and happy start to the new year!

Act II – ‘This is Me’

‘This is Me’ follows the uplifting theme of being grateful for who we are and confident to be our true self, but most importantly, celebrating individuality. The dancers will perform a range of feel-good Tap, Modern, Commercial/Street, Musical Theatre and Contemporary dances.  This quote by Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox perfectly encapsulates the theme of ‘This is Me’:

“We are all different but there’s something kind of fantastic about that, isn’t there?”

Performance times will be at 2:00pm and 6:00pm on Sunday 9th January. The show running time (including interval) is expected to be approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes and the show will be suitable for children aged 3 years and above.
