Since forming 21 years ago the Brockley Max Festival has taken over the Southeast of London each June for it’s 9 day run.  The Festival, run mostly by volunteers, started with just 12 events in 2001, and has expanded each year so that in 2022 there were nearly 90 events in the 9 days of the Festival.

Since last year though, a major part of the funding from Lewisham Council has been lost meaning the 2023 Opening Night event is under threat. The free Opening Night extravaganza on Friday 2 June kicks off the Festival. Starting at 4pm, Opening Night is an amazing family-friendly street party taking place close to Brockley station and consisting of six hours of live music by some great south London-based musicians. Our stage highlights the incredibly diverse musical talent in the area from local young bands and performers to professional acts such as Athlete and Chainska Brassika, Koder, Prima Queen and Yaaba Funk. Brockley Max Opening Night has become a must-see event in Lewisham’s cultural calendar, attracting audiences of all ages, creating lots of appreciation on social media and a huge buzz for the performers.

The Festival is an integral part of the local community with people volunteering their time to perform, sell raffle tickets, host events, and attend the plethora of different activities.

The crowdfunding campaign, which launched in January, is hoping to raise £5000 to make sure that the 2023 Opening Night can take place.

“Brockley Max is a fantastic festival that is much loved by local community. The ‘£5000 of money we are hoping to raise through GoFundMe will enable the Opening Night to continue.” Moira Tait, Festival Director
