The Forest Hill station sign, a beloved mural painted under the bridge on Waldram Place by local artist Lionel Stanhope, has been a cherished community landmark since 2018. Funded and chosen by local residents, it has welcomed visitors and passers-by for years. It is a rare piece of art in a world of advertising. Sadly, the mural has now fallen into disrepair due to weather, traffic, and vandalism, leaving it tarnished, moss-covered, and covered in graffiti.

The Forest Hill Society has stepped in to restore it, with plans to fully repaint, clean, and varnish the mural this April, in partnership with Lionel Stanhope and Network Rail. The project will cost at least £2,000, and the Society is now fundraising to cover restoration costs and to produce a commemorative newsletter to recognise all supporters. The community came together to create this mural in 2018, and now they’re being called upon once again to give it a new lease of life.
