Herne Hill Welcomes Refugees is a Community Sponsorship Group that welcomed a family from Iraq in December 2018. We have been featured by The Economist and Reuters and won the award for Best New Community Sponsorship Group 2018.
We have decided to apply to the Home Office to welcome a second family in early 2020 and need to raise funds to support the application.
Join us at this fundraising event on Sunday 13th October 2019 from 3-6pm to boost our efforts to sponsor the new family and to learn about the positive impact of community support for refugees worldwide.
The Wine Tasting
Like refugees, grapes cross national boundaries and establish new lives for themselves. Many flourish and become more successful in their new country. Others may be natives in their own country that you have yet to meet and some reinvent themselves. The guided tasting of 6 wines will be led by Helen Foster of Wandering Vine. There will be sparkling wine upon arrival, two white wines, two red wines and a dessert wine with cake to finish.
Led by Helen Foster
Helen started her tasting career with chocolate whilst working in the Research and Development laboratories at Cadbury’s in Bournville where she belonged to a tasting panel which met twice a week. In 1991 she set up her own wine tasting circle with a group of friends and it still meets on a monthly basis. Next she began running wine tastings in the workplace and found there was a steady demand. Her wine studies include an Advanced Certificate in Wines, Spirits and other Alcoholic Beverages awarded by the Wine and Spirit Education Trust in 1999.
