How long have you lived in the area? What brought you here?
I moved to East Dulwich in 2018. We were looking for primary schools and found Heber School which we loved. We were also drawn to this area because of the sense of community and independent shops and cafes. I grew up in the German countryside but love big cities. Here, I enjoy living within walking distance of all amenities and the slow pace while being in proximity of central London.
What one thing would you change?
I would love a central plaza in East Dulwich with cafes and restaurants. Where you’d go for a drink before dinner, you’d always meet people you know. Some trees for shade in the summer, some benches and space for children to play.
Do you know your neighbours?
Yes, we live on a residential road with a lovely community. Before we lived on Lordship Lane and are still friends with our previous landlord and neighbour.
Do you belong to any groups?
Dulwich Social is my favourite social. It’s not a club but everyone can come along when they can. They do coffee mornings, creative workshops, wine tastings and more. The grazing platters are too good to be true.
Where are you likely to be found on Saturday?
Playing Pickleball in East Dulwich Charter School or at my desk because Saturday is when my clients have the most time to go through their holiday itineraries.
Coffee or tea? Where?
Coffee at the Soderberg on Lordship Lane. I love the Swedish vibe and the cinnamon buns and waffles are irresistible.
Cafe, pub or bar? Café! While I enjoy cosy British pubs for a Sunday roast, sitting on the terrace of a café, drinking coffee and watching passers-by reminds me of my early 20s in Paris. Fortunately, in Dulwich, you have more space between the tables and chairs!
The best kept secret.. Harri’s Kitchen near Dulwich Library. A down-to-earth Greek café with a sunny terrace, fair prices, and delicious skewers.
Where’s your favourite place to walk? Dulwich Park is an obvious choice; the question is, should we take the left or right round?
My perfect holiday.. One of my best holidays was to Oman, a road trip through the desert, the Al Hajar mountains, along wadis, historic forts and the coast. The last highlight was a beachfront stay with incredible sunsets in beautiful Muscat.
My secret ambition.. My ambition is to help more travellers discover different cultures and experience countries in a more authentic way. In particular, children are so curious and positive when they are abroad, it’s important that they see how life and nature is different elsewhere. Who knows how the world will look like in 15 years.
