Hi I’m Alice and I help Type 2 Diabetics get their blood sugars down and their energy up.  I am a Nutritional Therapist and love helping people to have more energy to do the things they love.  I turned my recovery and my nursing training into my own business in 2017 and I love what I do.  In 2011 I found myself unable to do any of the things that I loved, I couldn’t even walk to the park, which is 5 minutes from my home, I didn’t have the energy.  I love helping diabetics feel better both about their diabetes and themselves and I also love helping people with fatigue and post viral issues get their energy back and start to feel themselves again.

How long have you lived in the area?

I’ve lived in South London all my adult life and moved to East Dulwich in 1999.

What brought you here?

We were living in Clapham at the time and found it was getting less friendly and local.  I loved the local feel of East Dulwich and being near so much green space was something very important to us.  The other thing of course was that we found an amazing family house that was within our price range.  Enough said.

The one thing you couldn’t do without?

Healthy food – since being ill 10 years ago good food has become vital to keep me healthy and energetic.  I must add in here that Brockwell Lido comes a close second – I swim there most days all year round and I just love it.

Do you know your neighbours?

Yes, loads of them, the pandemic made this even better.  We had outside drinks with neighbours after “Clap for Carers” every Thursday evening during the pandemic and there was a street party in the summer as well.

The most famous person you’ve met?

I used to babysit for Pippa Funnell, the equestrian eventer, when she was about 5 or 6!

Do you belong to any groups?

So many groups have not been running lately.  Before the pandemic I went regularly to Self Employed Club at Space at 61 in Cheltenham Road, SE15.  I went to Cooking with Scissors at the Lordship last week for the first time in about 10 years and I’m trying out the Entrepreneurs Circle at The Clockhouse at the moment.

What is your favourite place to eat?

I love Spinach on Lordship Lane, I frequently go there with a girlfriend for brunch at the weekend and their salads during the week are just delicious.

Coffee or tea?  Where?

Not a tea or coffee drinker so I would choose a turmeric latte at Norris and Knight on Forest Hill Road or Kanella on Lordship Lane.

The best meal I’ve had

The Begging Bowl in Bellenden Road.  I could eulogise about most their dishes, the sea bass, the curried cauliflower, and the banana fritters are the ones that spring to mind.  Time we paid a visit, it’s been a while.

My perfect holiday

Warm sun, sea and good food with lots of things to do, swimming, golf, walking and nice restaurants.  We spent loads of family holidays in North Cornwall and when the weather is good that’s perfect for me.  The other place I love is the East Neuk of Fife where my aunt was brought up.  We had 2 weeks of glorious sunshine there in September, I swam in the sea every day!
