West Dulwich man Steven Harris has lived in the area since arriving in London at the age of 16 several decades ago. The son of composer and Cornish bard William Lewarne Harris, he trained as a piano tuner/technician with prestigious store Harrods of Knightsbridge. Before he knew it, he found himself tuning for some wealthy and famous clients, but of course also tuned for many local schools and Dulwich residents. You don’t have to know about pianos in order to enjoy his book about a unique profession, for it’s more about the customers than pianos. The good, the bad and … perhaps not ugly, but The Man from Harrods is a very lively read which includes many tales about amusing and eccentric clients! Available from Dulwich Books in Croxted Road, and online.
