Local fundraiser Lesley’s house items sale on driveway, all welcome, for mental health in sport charity

Dulwich resident, and professional netball coach Lesley Tischler, has hit on a novel fundraising idea to raise much needed funds for a charity close to her heart.

On planning for an upcoming house move, Lesley realised that although she has items she’s enjoyed having around her for many years, this was time for a thorough sort out. And who could better benefit from the sale of Lesley’s items than the mental health in sport charity Sporting Minds UK.

Lesley said “I’m really pleased to be able to support the charity in this way. As a performance netball coach I see the pressured environment in which our young sportspeople operate. They need to know that there are independent experts out there that they can get in touch with when they need some support. I was planning to run the London Marathon in aid of the charity back in May, which obviously got cancelled. So as I’m moving house soon, rather than send items that won’t be moving with me to auction or selling them in various other ways, I came up with the idea of a sale of my various items on our driveway on a Saturday in July. All proceeds will go to Sporting Minds UK.”

The sale takes place on Saturday 18th July between 11am and 3pm on the driveway of 4 Dulwich Common, SE21 7EX, on the A205 (South Circular) in South London. Payment on the day by debit card preferred, but cash will be accepted. Current social distancing measures will be in place, in addition to a gazebo in case of inclement weather. Items in the sale include three antique wooden writing boxes, Designers Guild cushions, a wine decanter, a Riedel wine glasses set, a dinner service and a number of James Bond Cinema promotion posters, plus many more interesting objects.

At a time when Sporting Minds UK has seen over a 500% increase in athletes reaching out for mental health support, now more than ever fundraising such as Lesley’s is a crucial part of the charities future.

Callum Lea, the 20 year old Founder of Sporting Minds UK said

“What Lesley is doing for us is just fantastic and very much welcomed – her fundraising will go a long way to help us to help others. It’s a fact that those with existing mental health conditions are struggling more than usual, while many who have never experienced mental health issues before are experiencing anxieties for the first time. We know this from the sharp rise in calls for support that we have received from young sportspeople over the last couple of months.”

We wish Lesley the very best of luck with the sale – why not go along and grab yourself a bargain!
