Anna is a 40-something interior designer, who runs her own interior design business, Strictly Design. She is also the President of the East Dulwich WI, and a keen croquet player.
How long have you lived in the area?
I have lived in ED for nearly fifteen years now. Living south of the river wasn’t cool then, and house prices were much more affordable. I feel very lucky that chance led me to settle here.
What has changed most during that time?
There is so much more to do in the area now. From the buzzing high street shops, to all the really great places to eat and drink, and not forgetting of course, the brilliant community spirit.
Where are you likely to be found on Saturday?
Most likely queuing outside William Rose or Moxons with the rest of East Dulwich. I like to cook on a Saturday night, trying out new recipes and inviting friends along to test them out.
What’s your favourite place to go for a drink?
The House of Tippler after work with the girls for happy hour, although the cocktails are so good we regularly stumble out at 2am.
Where’s your favourite place to walk?
Dulwich Woods is stunning this time of year. Seeing the trees get their first autumn colour provides the most beautiful setting for an early morning stroll.
Do you belong to any groups?
I took up croquet two years ago and am now totally addicted. I am also a member of the East Dulwich WI where I recently took over as President. We are currently arranging the events for next year and it’s looking to be one of our best line-ups yet.
The most famous person you’ve seen or met?
I often bump into Grace Jones in the gym. We sometimes have a chat in the sauna. She is an amazing woman – and is in incredible shape!
Describe your perfect weekend
An empty diary, catching up with a few friends on Saturday night, cycling through the park to Dulwich Croquet Club on Sunday mornings for a few games, and a glass of fizz in the club house afterwards.
What’s the one thing you couldn’t do without?
My sketchbook. I use it for spur-of-the-moment drawings, fabric samples and all the random things that catch my eye during the day and often leads to a great idea for a design.
If money was no object…
I adore buying flowers from the Fresh Flower Company along North Cross Road. Fran always has a gorgeous selection of flowers and if money was no object I would buy bunches and bunches every day.
My secret ambition…
I would love to create my own range of products for Strictly Design, inspire more women to get involved with the WI and become a world class croquet player!
East Dulwich WI meets on the first Wednesday of each month, upstairs at The EDT.
