Alice Godfrey is a Registered Nutritional Therapist who lives in Forest Hill with her partner and their two children.  She specialises in anxiety and menopause and is keen to spread awareness of the importance of nutrition for mental health.  She does consultations from her home clinic and online.

How long have you lived in the area?

I’ve lived in Forest Hill for 3 years but before that I was in Sydenham for 8. Sydenham has changed far more in 3 years than it did in the 8 I was there!

What brought you here?

I’ve always felt at home in South London as my grandmother lived in Brixton.  I started there after university and then moved to Herne Hill then to Penge to afford a tiny flat and then came further east. I love this area’s leafy-ness.

What do you value most about the street you live in?

We live on Sunderland Road which is a lovely wide road which has some beautiful old houses on it (ours isn’t one of those unfortunately!). I like to imagine horse-drawn carriages trotting down it on their way to Beckenham.

What’s your favourite place for a night out?

My best ever nights out have been at music festivals in the countryside with no public transport or curfews but nowadays in central London, I don’t mind where too much as long as there are good friends, and locally Peckham is great.

The book I’m reading at the moment is…

‘Becoming’ by Michelle Obama. It brings up all sorts of emotions. Most frequently what a shame that the hope that the Obamas brought has been shattered.  So although it’s about a strong woman who is doing a wonderful job in empowering other women, it’s also a sad read.

Coffee or tea?

Tea! Herbal teas can be wonderful nourishment for the body and mind. Many have medicinal properties. From lowering stress to supporting your liver and boosting nutrient levels, you can pick one for almost every ill. Camomile is my favourite all rounder.

What’s the one thing you couldn’t do without?

My mum friends.  Essential for support and the sanity of anyone with small children.

Where are you likely to be found on a Saturday?

Working, at a yoga class (rarely but if I put it in print maybe it’ll happen more often?), but mostly cuddling my children on the sofa.

Best kept secret…

is the Quaker’s Meeting House. It’s seconds from my house which is a bonus and has all sorts of adults and kids classes there from kundalini yoga to Makaton.

When I want to relax…

I have an Epsom Salts bath. And you can’t beat a bit of Netflix.

What is your favourite place to eat?

I like Nopi and Ottolenghi where vegetables often take centre stage and taste amazing.  I also went to Redemption the other day in Covent Garden which is a nutritional therapist’s dream!
