Out Today!

Around Dulwich in April

As we bid farewell to March and spring well and truly into the second quarter of the year, we do so with another World Book Day, Mother’s Day and Red Nose Day under our belts. Costumes are returned to the dressing-up box, handmade cards are neatly filed away for nostalgia, and red noses are probably lost by now anyway. However, March was not just the month for celebrating national events, it also marked the 10th birthday of our Mothership, SE22 Magazine. Friends and supporters of the magazine were invited to commemorate the occasion at a private party held upstairs at The Palmerston. Suzanne James Catering provided mouth-watering canapés for the guests and fizz flowed freely all night long. Last month also saw the grand opening of the first Brick House bakery café on Zenoria Street, just off Lordship Lane. The artisan bakery, which is run by husband and wife team, Fergus and Sharmin, played host to a few highly esteemed locals on launch day, including our own Angela Burgess. Spring into March

Well, that has come around quickly. Seems like only yesterday we were ringing in the New Year, and now spring has almost sprung! Birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and our high street is bursting into life.   It was fab to see Dolce Vita Cupcakes return from their winter hibernation with a scrumptious array of cakes and cupcakes for sale outside the Cheese Shop on Lordship Lane. However, noticeably missing from the stalls on Northcross Road was the Fudge Lady, who after 10-years of selling her handmade Somerset fudge, has decided to focus on local craft fairs and events instead. Fudge lovers will still be able to get their sweet fix at the Dulwich Festival Fair in May. It’s not only local stallholders who are enjoying trading in the milder weather; local business owners were also busy showcasing their wares at Cooking with Scissors, a smart business networking event held every month at The Palmerston. The event is a chance for local professionals to meet, schmooze and maybe even gain new clients over a glass …
