Southwark’s leading business awards have attracted an exceptional range of entries from inspirational firms

The second annual Southwark Business Excellence Awards in association with London South Bank University drew submissions from companies across every sector of the borough’s vast business community, from sole traders to start-ups and long established companies. Senior adjudicator Paul Hadfield, who drew up the shortlist, says the depth and quality of the entries received from Southwark businesses was impressive. He commented: “I was really impressed, by the number of entries and the outstanding depth and quality of the submissions. “Southwark is home to some fantastic small and medium sized businesses who are world leaders in their field. Dulwich Entrepreneur Receives #Wow Award from Jacqueline Gold CBE

On Wednesday 5th December, Einav Avni from Dulwich, was recognised by British businesswoman, Jacqueline Gold CBE, for her success as a female entrepreneur and awarded with a prestigious #WOW badge. Einav was one of three winners selected by Jacqueline after she entered ‘Women on Wednesday’ – a competition launched by Jacqueline in 2011 to celebrate the growing number of UK female entrepreneurs and businesswomen. Women on Wednesday (#WOW) takes place every week and is run through Jacqueline’s Twitter page. When selecting the winners, Jacqueline looks for businesses that are interesting, that have strong brand values and that she thinks have potential to grow and succeed in their industry. New business awards to reward firms that bind the community together

Southwark’s prestigious new business awards will recognise the firms “at the heart” of what is one of London’s biggest and most vibrant communities. The Southwark Business Excellence Awards in association with Lewisham Southwark College, is open for entries from all 18,000 businesses in a borough that stretches east from Southbank to London Bridge and Surrey Docks, and south to Bermondsey, Peckham, Camberwell and Dulwich. Welcoming the new programme, Stuart Berkoff, Chief Financial Officer of launch sponsor, Sellar, said they were a measure of how far Southwark has come since the company bought the site of The Shard 20 years ago. Ex-Dragons’ Den Theo Paphitis backs Alhambra Tiles

A Sydenham company which imports an exclusive range of handmade tiles from Spain has added a former ‘Dragon’ to its list of admirers. Alhambra Tiles Ltd has been presented with a Small Business Sunday Award from former Dragons’ Den star Theo Paphitis. Mr Paphitis, who appeared on the hit BBC TV show from 2005 to 2012, runs the awards, which aim to support small businesses. Alhambra was chosen out of thousands of firms who applied, and received the award at the ICC in Birmingham last Friday 3 Feb. The company sources a range of handmade tiles, marble and terracotta, offering bespoke designs as standard. Founded in 2009 by Rebecca Leathlean, Alhambra has supplied prestigious clients such as Mary Portas and Levi Roots, and collaborated with top interior designers including local Forest Hill design duo, Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead, aka 2 Lovely Gays. Think Big Project Launch: Inspiring the next generation of Young Women Entrepreneurs in South London

  Think Big Project is launching this week with South London female business owners and entrepreneurs inspiring local young women to run their own businesses.  Its first event is on Wednesday 2nd March 2016 at Elm Green School in Tulse Hill. Clare Empson, founder of Think Big Project said, “I know so many women who are running their own successful businesses, some after working for larger organisations, and the Think Big Project is looking to inspire the next generation of female entrepreneurs by sharing our paths to where we are now.
