A true legacy of the 2012 Games
Local resident, Helen Carmichael, is taking to the track to support Operation Smile. The Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 is one of the biggest cycling events of the year and an endurance test like no other.

Helen Carmichael: “Why did I choose to Support Operation Smile? How could you not want to give a child a smile? When a stranger smiles at you in the street it can change your whole day – everyone should be able to give that gift to other people. I have a little girl and I could not imagine how it would affect her. I hope if she ever needs help like this, someone will be kind enough to get involved”

Karen Jaques (Operation Smile UK, CEO): “Our fundraisers are instrumental to our work – without them, we would not be able to provide free surgeries for so many children in need around the world. Those born with a cleft condition in developing countries face not only physical complications, but are often subjected to severe social stigma and isolation. People like Helen help us reach these children and through surgery, help them to live the life they deserve. We are in awe of Helen’s challenge and incredibly grateful for her efforts, both in fundraising, and of course on the saddle! We can’t wait to hear her story and show her the impact her challenge will have.”

About Operation Smile
Operation Smile is an international children’s medical charity – we provide free, life changing surgery for children in the developing world who are born with cleft lip, cleft palate and other facial deformities. Without our help, these children may well have to live their whole lives with the very real and damaging consequences of such deformities; suffering stigma and social isolation as well as many physical issues. Helen’s challenge enables us to showcase our work to our supporters and to raise vital funds to enable Operation Smile to continue to provide children around the world with the smiles they deserve.
