Pupils from James Allen’s Preparatory School dressed up as Santas, elves and reindeers to round off a fortnight of fundraising that brought in over £2000 for children in Africa.
The 40 JAPS pupils and their parents ran around the park several times in aid of Ugandan charity Action for Fundamental Change and Development (AFFCAD), which runs a free school for children whose families could not otherwise afford to give them an education.
Over the Christmas period the girls have raised £1800 for the school in Bwaise, the largest and poorest slum in the Ugandan capital Kampala. Other activities included selling Christmas cards, setting up a make shift hair salon in the school and a sale of handmade snowmen and Christmas angels by pupil Leona that brought in £200. The JAPS pupils also made up over 200 pencil cases with much needed stationery which have now been sent to the children in Bwaise.
In addition to supporting AFFCAD, JAPS’s girls have raised £350 for Ebola orphans by selling their own hand made Christmas decorations.
