Horniman Butterfly House

Get up close with hundreds of beautiful butterflies in a tropical indoor garden. The specially-planted habitat is the perfect place to experience free-flying butterflies and discover amazing facts about the life-cycle and behaviour of these fascinating creatures.

Tickets: Adult £6, Child £6, Family (2 adults and 2 children) £15 [includes voluntary 10% Gift Aid donation which supports the work of the Horniman. Standard prices also available.]

Special Events

Bloody Late
Thursday 19 October, 6.30–9.30pm
It is essential and deathly, a source of poetry and horror, vital for surgeons and vampires. Join us for this special evening dissecting the scientific and symbolic nature of blood, with performances, music, talks and activities in a similar vein.

Tickets: £5. Over-18s only.

Autumn Welly Walk on the Nature Trail
Saturday 7 October, 1.45–3.30pm
Join us for a family-friendly walk on the Horniman Nature Tail to discover the insects, animals and plants that live there. Have a go at sweep-netting, treebeating and other fun activities.

Tickets: Child £3, Adult £5. Suitable for children aged 5+.

World Mental Health Day
Saturday 14 October, 11am–3pm

Take part in activities to explore and promote positive mental wellbeing, run by our partners Arts Network and SLaM Recovery College. Part of World Mental Health Day.

Horniman Halloween Fair
Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October from 10.30am–4.30pm

Join us for fiendish fun at our annual Halloween Fair. Meet creepy crawlies in the Wild Fangs cave, enjoy spooky storytelling, and delve into our amazing arts and crafts markets and fabulous food stalls. Come dressed in your best costume and join in the Halloween happenings at the Horniman.

Halloween Storytelling
Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm
As part of the Halloween Fair, enjoy some spooky Halloween storytelling with Jumble Abode Theatre. Hear ghoulish tales with playful puppetry and learn about the mystics and magic of Halloween.

Tickets: Child £5, Adult £1. Suitable for families with children aged 3+. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

October Half Term

October Half Term Storytelling
Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 October at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2.30pm, 3.30pm (Performance lasts 30 minutes)

Join our storyteller from Dotted Line Theatre for a collection of riotous stories about ugly animals, from slimy slugs to gangly birds and gruesome fish to grody toads.

Tickets: Child £5, Adult £1. Suitable for families with children ages 3+. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Big Wednesday: Ugly Animals
Wednesday 25 October from 10.30am-3.30pm

Join us for a day of fun finding out about strange and monstrous animals with the Ugly Animals Roadshow, listen to stories about strange creatures and watch animations created by students at the London College of Communication, inspired by The Robot Zoo exhibition.

Family Art Fun
Monday 23, Tuesday 24, Thursday 26, Friday 27 October from 11am-3.30pm

Join free and fabulous Horniman craft activities inspired by The Robot Zoo exhibition. Sessions last 45 minutes, last entry at 2.45pm.

Horniman Explorers
Monday 23 and Friday 27 October from 11am-12.30pm, 2-3.30pm

Drop-in to our Hands On Base to explore real museum objects and take part in exciting activities such as trying on masks, playing musical instruments or drawing.
