Following on from the success of the Peckham Connection, over 2017, local author-photographers Anna Green and Alice Malik have been taking photographs and listening to the stories of 51 enterprising and independent East Dulwich businesses. In a chain linked together by the traders themselves, they were referred from one business to another. The rule was, they only went where they were sent.

The result is a beautiful photo-book illustrating a fascinating series of vignettes that provides insights into the area’s recent evolution and what is yet to come. Once again, they were sent to a host of connected businesses including bars and coffee shops, gift- and home-ware shops, fashion outlets, mechanics, crafts-people, artists and builder’s merchants. The traders were spread across East Dulwich: on the very prominent Lordship Lane, and its offshoots, as well as to other satellite commercial areas including Grove Vale and Forest Hill Road and also the more tucked-away arches and home-based workspaces, including garden sheds, dotted about SE22.

Encouraging local enterprise themselves, they have collaborated with a young local designer, Ezra-LLoyd Jackson who has transformed their project into a stunning representation of all that makes East Dulwich unique. Once again, the cover features colourful artwork by Janette Parris.

The book is on sale exclusively at Chener Books.
