Unlocking Paintings: Artists in Amsterdam

During the 17th century, Amsterdam became a new economic superpower in Europe, providing a wealth of opportunities for young painters to make their mark. This display explores the personal stories of key artists from our Collection; including works by Meindert Hobbema, Jacob van Ruisdael and Willem van de Velde II. Explores tales of invention, ingenuity, fortune and loss, all against the backdrop of an ambitious, fast-moving city.

Edward Alleyn’s Gift – Celebrating 400 Years of Dulwich history: 1619–2019

This exhibition will take you on a journey through local history, from the origins of Edward Alleyn’s 17th-century foundation to the present day, including a short film by Simon Purin and an interactive map for visitors.

Dulwich Pavilion 2019: The Colour Palace

The Colour Palace is the second edition of the Dulwich Pavilion. The outcome of an open design competition organised by the Gallery and the London Festival of Architecture, The Colour Palace is a vibrant new addition for summer 2019 at Dulwich Picture Gallery, with a full programme of events. It is open late every Friday in August for free.

Pavilion Salon: The Colour Contest

15 August, 7.30pm, £10
Panel Discussion: What is the greatest colour of all? Join us as we discuss the emotional significance of colour with Professor Carol Mavor, Dr Nuala Morse, Kassia St Clair, and our Director Jennifer Scott. Expect a lively debate, as each panellist makes the case for the ‘best’ colour.

Pavilion Supper Club: Fat Macy’s

Enjoy a set three course meal and complimentary cocktail from Fat Macy’s. Centred around training aspiring chefs to serve delicious food with heart, the much-lauded social enterprise uses British seasonal produce wherever possible.

In this special Pavilion Art Taster, sketch life models covered in UV paint patterns inspired by The Colour Palace using pencil, charcoal and neon pastel. Sessions last an hour.

Art Sundays
Summer season: Sunday 2 June – Sunday 29 September, 2-4pm every Sunday
Free; drop-in. Sunday is art day! Come along to the Gallery every Sunday for a drop-in family art-making workshop. Each week there will be a different theme for you to explore and something for you to take away as a momento. Suggested age: 4-12yrs.

Art Camp: Shape Sculptors
Tuesday 13 August – Thursday 15 August, 10am-4pm (10-12 years)
£90 for three days
Over three days experiment with different materials and processes to create a sculpture inspired by the Pavilion. At the end of the week, you’ll bring your creations together to make a pop-up sculpture trail, complete with posters and maps designed by you!

Art in the Pavilion

Celebrate the summer holidays with art-making in The Colour Palace and grounds! Taking inspiration from the Pavilion’s colours, patterns, shapes and lines, we will be making sun catchers, sculptures and much more. Make something new each week with us. Suggested age: 4-12yrs.

Art Camp: Colour Crafters
Tuesday 20 August – Thursday 22 August, 10am-4pm (6-9 years)
Tuesday 27 August – Thursday 29 August, 10am-4pm (10-12 years)
£90 for three days
Explore our Pavilion by experimenting with combining different colours, designs and materials. Over three days enjoy discovering different ways of printing, sculpting and book-making. At the end of the week come away with lots of new skills and creations!

Seasonal Specials

Pavilion Yoga + Cutting Edge
Until 1 September; Sunday 11 August, 8.30am registration, 8.45-9.45am yoga session (followed by exhibition view)
£25; £12 Friends. Book all three sessions for £60
Teachers from the British Wheel of Yoga will lead a practice designed to stretch, strengthen and energise you. Each session in The Colour Palace will focus on a specific theme reflecting the summer programme and the Pavilion structure. Suitable for all levels except complete beginners. Instructor (11 August): Ella Holguin.
