Ribera: Art of Violence is the first UK show of work by the Spanish Baroque painter, draughtsman and printmaker, Jusepe de Ribera (1591–1652), displaying his most sensational, shocking and masterfully composed works.

Gallery Lates: Under The Skin
23 November, 6-10pm

Do you dare to get under the skin of Ribera: Art of Violence after-hours? Reveal your dark side through creative workshops, talks and tours, powerful new dance performances by Dane Hurst and live art by _REMIX. Experience the exhibition’s challenging themes through the lens of a curator, a pathologist, a drag queen, musicians and queer visual artists. Indulge in Spanish-inspired drinks, wines and artisan appetisers from local producers to keep your cravings satisfied.

Mini Masterpieces

Discover all of the different people, places and animals in the Gallery’s paintings in these interactive workshops. Each session begins with a journey through the Gallery, followed by an art-making activity. Our themes change monthly to keep your little creatives engaged. This month’s theme is buildings.

Extreme Expressions
Five Tuesdays from 6 November to 4 December

Taking inspiration from Ribera’s detailed studies of different facial features and his depictions of the human experience at its most extreme, create a sketchbook of studies from life over five weeks. You will get to experiment with a variety of techniques and media, including pencil, chalk and ink. With artist Sarah Wetherall

Beneath The Skin of Ribera’s Bodies

Join art historian Jack Hartnell to learn about the complex and fascinating ways in which the people of the Middle Ages thought about, explored and experienced their physical selves.
