Sargent: The Watercolours
The first UK show in nearly 100 years devoted to watercolours by the American artist, John Singer Sargent (1856–1925). Renowned as the portraitist of his generation, Sargent also devoted time to developing his watercolours, which dazzle with light and colour, demonstrating a technical brilliance and striking individuality. This exhibition brings together over 80 watercolours to reveal Sargent’s idiosyncratic view of the world and the scale of his achievement.

The Private Made Public: Antonio de Pereda
On display is Antonio de Pereda’s Two Figures at a Table with Kitchen Utensils (1631-1678), on loan from Penrhyn Castle (National Trust). A contemporary of Velázquez, Pereda is one of the finest still-life painters of the Spanish Golden Age and his Kitchen Scene is filled with exquisite details, which visitors will be able to explore at close quarters.

This summer we celebrate 200 years since we first opened to the public with the very first Dulwich Pavilion. The Dulwich Pavilion and Pavilion Bar is open all summer, including late night openings Thursdays and Sundays for you to relax and enjoy a drink.

Family Summer Celebration
6 August, 5.30 – 8.30pm, £7 per adult and £5 per child
Celebrate the start of the summer holidays with a special family party at the Gallery. Reel and jig the evening away in our pavilion, with a performance by folk orchestra SELfolk. Create your own portrait in the style of our Old Masters, listen to the stories our paintings have to tell and dress up to recreate famous paintings in our collection. Bring your own picnic or enjoy a BBQ from our cabin. One child eats free for every paying adult.

Get creative at our art-making sessions in Dulwich Pavilion. Explore themes from the Permanent Collection, temporary exhibition Sargent: The Watercolours, and the special design of our pavilion.

Practical Art for Young People
For 6-9yrs:
Art Camp: Artists’ Colony
3 days: 1 – 3 August
10am – 4pm or 8.30am – 5.30pm (extended day)
£90: 10am – 4pm
£120: 8.30am – 5.30pm
Join our artists’ colony this summer and make a variety of arts and crafts over three days. Learn tie-dyeing techniques, make your own scarf, and weave your own crowns. Please wear clothes you won’t mind getting messy! Join us for arts activities from 10am to 4pm, or if you need to stay with us longer, there will be fun and games from 8.30am to 10am, and 4pm to 5.30pm. Please bring a packed lunch.
For 10-12yrs:
Art Camp: Art Through Architecture
3 days: 15 – 17 August
10am – 4pm or 8.30am – 5.30pm (extended day)
£90: 10am – 4pm
£120: 8.30am – 5.30pm
Take inspiration from the Dulwich Pavilion and the way it mirrors and fragments the architecture of the Gallery. Over three days, create a variety of observational drawings and a large-scale sculpture. Display your finished sculptures in our pavilion on the final day to share in a special celebration with friends, family and Gallery visitors. Please bring a packed lunch.
Off The Wall
Discuss, debate and have your say!
Meet new people, work with a professional artist and engage in lively discussion as you challenge the role of galleries for young people today. Working in the Gallery you will explore univeral themes such as love, power, beauty and equality using our Permanent Collection and temporary exhibitions as your stimuli. Join us as we find new and creative ways to express these ideas – it’s your space and your voice!
