Art@57 is a new Art Gallery in the window of Suzanne James’ private hire venue at 57 North Cross Road, East Dulwich. It is curated by local Artist, Louise Ward.

Art@57 aims to showcase the work of local Artists in a rolling programme of exhibitions highlighting the quality of the creativity in and around SE22. People passing by will be able to discover and engage with the work of a different Artist each month.

March’s Artist is Diana McKinnon. Diana is a Textile Artist working in free motion embroidery. Originally a teacher, she has continued to develop her own skills in ceramics and creative embroidery. She is a member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen and has exhibited throughout the UK including at the Mall Galleries and Chelsea College of Art. One of her major inspirations is the work of the Impressionists, which is reflected in the colour, light and tactile qualities of her vibrant embroidered landscapes. Diana focuses on the way that the light changes the landscape from season to season. She translates this into the textures, colours and details of her pictures by carefully layering sheer fabrics and silk papers,  building them up with machineembroidery. Edges of silk paper fall free of the stitched pictures to suggest infinity.

Come and see Diana’s work in the window at no.57 throughout the month of March or come and meet her and see more of her work at our first Art@57 Art Market on Sunday 24th March from 11am – 5pm, one week before Mothering Sunday.

Two further dates for Art Markets are set for Sunday 28th April from 11am-5pm and Saturday 29th June from 10am-4pm. At each market there will be a great mix of exciting and diverse Artworks including embroidery, photography, textiles, ceramics, knitwear, floral prints, greetings cards, paintings, etchings, lino prints and illustration, all designed and made by local Artists.  You won’t find these in the usual high street shops!
