We finally made it along to The Robot Zoo at the Horniman Museum last month and I am so pleased that we did! This family-friendly exhibition features larger-than-life animals that have been innovatively recreated using a variety of familiar machine parts and gadgets to reveal how their real life counterparts see, eat, hunt and hide. You can also test your reflexes to see if you can react as fast as a house fly, shoot insects with a chameleon’s tongue-gun, hang like a bat and try jet-propelled squid racing. I feel so lucky to have this wonderful museum and stunning gardens right on our doorstep and we will definitely be going back to visit The Robot Zoo again before the exhibition ends in October.

This June was possibly the hottest on record for years and temperatures look set to soar into July. Now, I love it when the sun comes out, but definitely more so when I am poolside with an ice-cold drink in my hand. Commuting to work during a heat wave is far less pleasurable, especially when you are forced to spend an entire tube journey with your nose pinned inside someone’s sweaty armpit. Fortunately, with just a few more weeks left of the school term, we will soon be jetting off to the beautiful Greek islands to take advantage of the natural cooling properties of a sea breeze, which I am reliably informed is most effective when absorbed from a horizontal position.

School is almost out for summer, which means that it is School Summer Fair Season! Goose Green Primary School will kick things off on Saturday 1st July with a space themed carnival procession from the school to the green with all the kids performing songs on stage. There will also be “Star Wars” special guests attending, bouncy inflatables, games, music, food and drink stalls, face painting and entertainment. The Bessemer Grange Annual Summer Fair is the following weekend and also includes a Bouncy Castle, BBQ and bar. The 15th July will play host to Fairlawn Primary School’s Hawaiian Luau with a real ale, cider and Prosecco cocktail tiki bar, live music and games for the kids.

The popular Scummy Mummies will be introducing their hit new book – a celebration of parenting failures, hilarious confessions, fish fingers and wine – at The Ivy House on 11th July, which is free to attend!

I have not picked up a croquet mallet since appearing on Ashley Banjo’s Secret Street Crew with Angela and the East Dulwich WI a few years back, so I am looking forward to seeing if my skills have improved at a friend’s birthday BBQ and Croquet afternoon at Dulwich Croquet Club in August.

More so than my own birthday weekend, which I share with my soon-to-be 8-year-old, and has a football theme this year… Send Prosecco!
