Hosted by the Mayor of Lewisham, this annual golf tournament takes place at the Dulwich and Sydenham Golf Club. Following the tournament, a charity dinner and auction will be held, with all proceeds going to the Lavender Trust at Breast Cancer Care. Golf teams should have a maximum of four people. Westow Park & Upper Norwood Triangle, Crystal Palace, SE19. The 7th Crystal Palace Overground Festival returns to Crystal Palace to showcase the best local live music, poetry, theatre, film, food and shopping. 6.30pm. Join us for an engaging lecture by leading Shakespeare expert Dr Bart Van Es from the University of Oxford. Dr van Es will explain how Shakespeare’s artistic development was influenced by working conditions in the theatre at the time. Charting a series of changes in the theatre from 1592-1614, this lecture will reveal an original picture of Shakespeare as a theatrical collaborator, investor, poet and performer. The Artists and Artisans of The Arches Studios proudly welcome you to their Summer Open Studios Event. Anyone living in the vicinity of Peckham and even further afield will have noticed that the area is increasingly being recognised in the fashionable pages as the new hotbed of creative talent in the capital, something that the scores of creative individuals and businesses that have made it their home have known and thrived on for many years.

The long-standing community of Artists and Artisans know collectively as The Arches Studios, nestled in the railway arches behind Peckham Rye station, off Blenheim Grove, is geographically right at the center of this creative enclave and has over the years forged and cemented strong community ties. In what has become a local tradition dating back some 20 years, The Arches Studios will again be open to the public during the last weekend of June, providing a great opportunity to meet with artists in their own work-places, discuss their working practices and view a range of new and ongoing works for sale, in a relaxed and family-friendly environment.

Visitors will be greeted by a wide range of works from the fields of Ceramics, Sculpture, Fine Art and Print-making, for sale to suit a range of budgets as well as delicious snacks and refreshments throughout the weekend.

Many of you will be aware of the proposed development around the station, at the heart of Peckham’s Rye Lane, which is potentially an exciting and challenging opportunity for our creative enterprises as well as the wider community. We hope that this will be an artist/community-led development, sensitive and supportive to the dynamic and diverse nature of the existing culture as well as a stimulus for future growth.
